Canada has become the first G7 country to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. Marijuana legalization brings several economic, regulatory, social and health challenges for Canadian workplaces.  This workshop will discuss the following:

  • Describe the employer’s duty to accommodate medical marijuana & duty to maintain a safe work environment
  • Discuss the different forms of accommodation
  • Apply an effective workplace policy on both medical and non-medical marijuana
  • Consider the effects of marijuana legalization on the workplace
  • List the cannabis conduct guidelines for the workplace
  • Describe the importance of understanding and abiding by the company drug policy
  • Know the employer’s drug testing rights
  • Explain how and when an employee could fail a drug test
  • Describe the liability facing both the employee and employer for impairment in the workplace
